Meighan Harmon
SCHILLER DUCANTO & FLECK
MANAGING PARTNER

Meighan Harmon is the managing partner of Schiller DuCanto & Fleck LLP, the first female to hold this position since the firm’s establishment in 1981. When Meighan assumed this high-profile role in 2019, no one could have foreseen the obstacles presented by a global pandemic. Through her “lead by example” approach and commitment to her clients and colleagues, SDF’s Management Team led the firm through unprecedented times while preserving the firm’s stellar reputation for exceptional client service.

In a 2019 interview with Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Co-Founding Partner Donald Schiller said:

“[Meighan] is a natural leader who takes great care to help guide and continue the development of our first-rate team of lawyers...When the vacancy arose, there was no question among the executive committee that Meighan was the right person to become our managing partner at this important time in our firm’s growth and development. I am delighted to see her take on this next challenge.”

While the challenges certainly exceeded what anyone could have anticipated, Meighan has proven herself a true leader in all facets with an extraordinary ability to handle highly stressful situations and navigate any hurdles in her path.

Meighan focuses her practice on complex family law cases involving the distribution of multi-million dollar estates and represents successful business professionals and their spouses from a variety of industries, as well as individuals with multi-generational wealth.

She is a versatile attorney who provides her clients a wide range of options for resolving their disputes. She is an experienced litigator who can be fierce in the courtroom, but she is also a trained collaborative lawyer and a family law mediator who can devise creative solutions and amicably settle even the toughest of cases. No two divorces are the same and Meighan possesses the skills necessary to provide the right solution for each unique situation.

Not only does Meighan assist her clients in dissolving their marriages, but she also encourages them to be future focused. She believes divorce offers clients a unique opportunity to build a positive future for themselves, complete with financial and emotional security. To this end, she provides her clients with the tools necessary to help them construct a solid foundation on which to navigate their new lives. For Meighan’s clients, divorce can be a springboard to reinventing themselves.

Meighan is part of an elite group of leaders in family law. In 2011, she was elected by her peers to be president of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML). In 2020, Meighan earned international recognition by Chambers and Partners USA, which ranked her in the top tier (Band 1) for Family/Matrimonial Law: High Net Worth, making her one of only a handful of Illinois Family Law Attorneys to earn this prestigious award. Super Lawyers has also named Meighan as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in Illinois 2016-2021, and she was recently named a “Lawyer of the Year” in Family Law by The Best Lawyers in America for 2021.

As Schiller DuCanto & Fleck celebrates its 40th anniversary and its new downtown Chicago office, the firm also celebrates the strong women who have helped shape the firm into what it is today. Meighan, and all of her female partners, has been integral to the firm’s trajectory and success.
