Panel affirms conviction for battery against nurse

A state appeals panel on Monday affirmed a man’s battery conviction for kicking a hospital nurse.The defendant, Andrew Slabon, argued during his Cook County jury trial that he didn’t know Lauren Benjamin was a nurse because of his “compromised mental state.” But the 1st District panel found that Slabon’s own testimony contradicted his claims stemming from the January 2013 incident.The panel ruled enough evidence was presented at trial to convict Slabon of aggravated battery of a registered …
