I recently streamed two filmed plays I highly recommend.One is by an emerging young playwright, the other by a seasoned, classical one.This is a pair much like the two protagonists in “The Last Match” by budding writer Anna Ziegler. The Writers Theatre’s production depicts an aging 30-something former American tennis champion engaged in a U.S. Open semifinal match against a young, arrogant and highly competitive Russian player.The second play is from an elderly Englishman who turned 457 last month — a contemporary PBS …

In 2005, celebrated author Margaret Atwood (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) responded to Canadian publisher Jamie Byng’s commission to solicit contemporary authors to rewrite ancient myths with “The Penelopiad.” The novella set forth her current interpretation of Homer’s classic “The Odyssey,” the tale in which Odysseus leaves his bride, Penelope, for 10 years to fight in the Trojan War.
