NFL ERISA lawsuit stays in federal court

A lawsuit accusing the National Football League of blocking insurance payments to a Chicago-area medical group treating retired players belongs in federal court, a judge held.In a written opinion last week, U.S. District Judge Manish S. Shah denied a motion by Advanced Physicians S.C., headquarters in Crest Hill, to send its suit back to Cook County Circuit Court.Shah held Advanced’s claim under Illinois law of tortious interference with prospective economic advantage is pre-empted by the federal Employee Retirement …
