A railroad employee who lost sight in his left eye after he was hit by a piece of steel while replacing a section of railroad track will receive $3.6 million.A Cook County jury awarded more than $13.1 million in plaintiff Ramon Mata’s Federal Employers’ Liability Act case against the railroad company but the award was reduced after jurors determined Mata was 72% negligent.The verdict was reached Sept. 26 after a two-week trial before Circuit Judge Thomas V.
