Judge allows detainee’s lawsuit over collapsed lung to continue

A federal judge cleared the way for a man to pursue a lawsuit accusing Lake County Jail personnel of violating his constitutional rights by denying him medical care for a severe asthma condition. In a written opinion last week, U.S. District Judge Ruben Castillo did not rule on the merits of Vincent Varela’s allegations that the conduct of two jailers with the Lake County Sheriff’s office and a nurse led him to suffer a collapsed lung.
