City Council nearing vote on $16M Bettie Jones settlement

The Chicago City Council next week is slated to consider settling the claims brought by the estate of Bettie Jones, who was inadvertently killed by a police officer in December 2015, for $16 million.If approved by the Finance Committee on Monday and the full council on Thursday, the Jones settlement would be the second-highest settlement the city of Chicago has paid to settle claims stemming from a police shooting.The largest settlement in such a case was $18 million the city council approved in 2001 to settle the claims …
