Monique Bhargava
Loeb & Loeb
Advertising, data privacy, brand protection

Monique Bhargava has established herself as a go-to source for advertising agencies. Fortune 500 brands, media and tech leaders turn to Bhargava when they want to build compliant advertising and marketing campaigns, utilize and monetize data and analytics, protect their brands and safeguard their revenue streams.

Bhargava has guided clients through the development of high-profile omni-channel advertising and marketing campaigns, worked with advertising agencies and national advertisers to address advertising fraud and brand-safety issues in digital advertising, managed a high-profile copyright infringement suit in connection with a client’s Super Bowl commercial and advised top agencies and brands on complex adtech matters and deals.

Bhargava has also helped companies navigate the shifting landscape of privacy regulation, including the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act.

During the last five years, Bhargava worked with a major snack and beverage manufacturer on the compliance strategy for its Super Bowl promotions. She advised on the promotional campaign structure, the terms and conditions, and the rules of promotion. Bhargava also reviewed marketing assets to help protect valuable copyright and trademark rights. She played an instrumental role as the liaison between the company’s public relations team, advertising agency, promotion agency and foreign counsel for this global advertising and promotional program.

Bhargava also played a critical role in the launch of a citywide parking app. Her work included negotiations between a technology platform provider running the city parking system, and advising on privacy compliance, app policies and related advertising and disclosures.

These results aren't unusual, Chicago attorney Priti Nemani said.

"When a major retail client was looking to establish their first in-house sweepstakes promotion platform, they came to Nikki for her high-level expertise in the area," Nemani said.

Bhargava helped the big- box retail chain run thousands of promotions each day. The result was an advanced automated sweepstakes and contest platform that the company was able to run primarily through its in-house marketing team.

Ateet Adhikari, general counsel with ShopRunner Inc., said the future looks especially bright for Bhargava.

"Nikki is a superstar, having worked with the leading ad agencies and Fortune 100 brands," Adhikari said. "That gives her the experience necessary to protect our members, partners and strategic data products."

Bhargava serves as co-chair of Loeb & Loeb’s Chicago women’s affinity group and is a member of the firmwide diversity committee, where she works to develop training and mentorship programs that support the advancement and inclusion of diverse attorneys.

Bhargava also serves as an American Bar Foundation fellow, and formerly served on the boards of both the Asian American Bar Association of Greater Chicago and the South Asian Bar Association of Chicago. She is currently the VP of Affiliate Relations for the South Asian Bar Association of North America and serves on the board of directors for Chicago Volunteer Legal Services.
