Albert Angelo
Hinshaw & Culbertson
Tort Defense Litigation

Albert Angelo joined the Chicago law firm Hinshaw & Culbertson in 2007 as a law clerk. It didn't take long for this young attorney to impress the leaders at this firm. He quickly climbed the ranks at Hinshaw, earning complicated and intricate legal assignments.

One sign that his Hinshaw colleagues recognized Angelo's early potential was his selection for the firm's legal team leading the defense against Chicago's best plaintiff's attorneys on the numerous cases that arose from the catastrophic high-rise fire at the Cook County Building at 69 W. Washington in 2003.  Angelo was an important element of the team that ultimately resolved the litigation shortly before trial in a record cumulative $100 million settlement with multiple defendants.

Today, Angelo is a partner at Hinshaw. He has also risen to firm management as a practice group leader, serves as a member of Hinshaw's Hiring Committee, and is a member of its Diversity Committee. He's accomplished all this before his 40th birthday.

Those who know Angelo aren't surprised by this quick rise. A judge with the Circuit Court of Cook County's Law Division, said that Angelo's clients trust him. They recognize both his legal knowledge and his dedication to providing them with the best possible results. "Al has a knack for business relationships with clients and for seeing industry trends early in the process," the Judge said. "As such, clients have gravitated to him." The judge added that Angelo "is an exceptional attorney with a great business mind and a natural leader who I know will continue to contribute positively to Chicago's communities in the future."

Angelo focuses his practice primarily in tort defense litigation, including cases involving transportation, products liability, toxic tort, chemical exposure, fire litigation, construction defect and general liability matters. He frequently leads mediations, arbitrations and litigation in both state and federal court.

Angelo is also the lead member of the national defense team for one of the firm's largest clients focusing primarily on transportation/auto-collision claims/micro-mobility, requiring pro hac vice representation throughout the country.

Angelo is also innovative. He created and is the head of Hinshaw's national rideshare defense practice. He created and manages a national micro-mobility defense program for a 50-state business enterprise. In these roles, Angelo oversees a team of dozens of partners, associates, paralegals and staff members.

In running these programs, Angelo has pioneered defense strategies that guide his clients in reaching their legal and business objectives. This includes alternative dispute resolution strategies, developing internal and legal protocols, motion practice strategies, innovative investigation techniques, and many other client-focused initiatives. As an example of Angelo's entrepreneurial streak, this young attorney recently created a social media gathering tool to quickly and efficiently capture critical evidence about witnesses and parties.

Outside of the legal community, Angelo finds time to get involved with his community. He is an active member of his local church and is the captain of Hinshaw's 16-inch softball team.
