Illinois Supreme Court won’t hear Harvey pension appeal

The state’s top court has declined to give the cash-strapped city of Harvey a shot at relief from severe pension failures.The Illinois Supreme Court this week declined to second-guess a state appeals panel that made a first-of-its-kind decision, declaring the city’s firefighter pension system on the verge of insolvency and upholding a judge’s order that the suburb pay more than $15 million in damages.The ruling last summer by the 1st District Appellate Court found the city had let the fund dwindle so …
