A Cook County jury awarded more than $5.5 million to the estate of a man who died from a blood clot while being prepped for knee surgery.Carey Johnson-Young sued NorthShore University HealthSystem and the doctors and nurses who treated her husband, David Young, alleging the doctors failed to recognize he was at risk to develop a blood clot and did not order tests to discover if he had one.The verdict was reached Jan. 23 after a two-week trial before Cook County Circuit Judge Marguerite A.
